Grandma Bellino's Italian Cookbook, is based on Recipes from Giuseppina Salemi Bellino, who was born and raised in Lercara Friddi, Sicliy, the same town that Charles "Lucky" Luciano, and Martino Saverino Sinatra (Frank Sinatra 's father) were born.

Giuseppina immirgatedfrom Lercara Friddi to New York in 1904, with her husband Fillipo Bellino. A few years later they moved to Lodi, New Jersey, a few miles away from New York City. At the time, Lodi, was a town that was made up of Italian Immigrants 100%, mostly of Sicilian or Neapolitan origins.

Giuseppina's grandson Daniel Bellino grew to love food so much, he went to Culinary School, and worked his way up to become the Chef at Corrado Italian Restaurant, after working for a few years in French and Italian Restuarants. He open the 1st Venetian Wine Bar (Bacaro), Bar Cichetti, where he was the Chef, Wine Director and Managing Partner.

Daniel traveled extensively in Italy, learning about all regions of Italian Food, and gathering many great recipes. He published his first book La Tavola in 2012, followed by his Best Selling Italian Cookbook SUNDAY SAUCE in 2013.

Daniel's book Grandma Bellino's Cookbook is based on his Nonna Bellino's Recipes, and other recipes from Bellino family members (Mother Lucia, Aunt Fran, Aunt Helen, & Uncle Tony).

FRAPPATTO

OCCHIPINTI

Arianna Occhipinti is a young producer Sicilian calling itself "natural", a girl with clear ideas who knew how to shine within a few years thanks to a production with a defining style certainly different from the vast majority of Sicilian wines, and this does not just because its wines fall into the ranks of the natural so-called , the wines are the opposite of what you can imagine thinking of Sicilian and southern wines in general , often marmellatosi, iperfruttati, slow and heavy. Arianna produces its wines from grapes grown following the dictates of ' biodynamic agriculture , its wines fall, in fact, in the selection of wines Triple A , vinification occurs without the temperature control and with only native yeasts, everything ago is that the its wines are certainly more healthy as it does not contain residues of chemical poisons and moreover, each vintage but even every bottle is not identical to the other because the natural wine is anything but certified to a standard, it certainly can happen to be dealing with a volatile wire, but it is easy to postpone when you think you're drinking something unconventional and inevitably unique.
The vines cultivated by Arianna Occhipinti are Frappato which produces purity of the wines, coupled with Nero d'Avola red instead born SP68, the Albanello and Muscat that together give life instead to white SP68. From the vineyards of Nero d'Avola was born Siccagno, unique interpretation , diametrically different from the usual undergone by the most famous Sicilian grape. Siccagno is a red wine of great elegance, freshness and extraordinary drinkability. Ruby red color concentrated but not impenetrable, expresses aromas of blackberries and other fruits blacks, vegetal notes and undergrowth. It needs a little time to indulge, he does it on the Mediterranean notes, balsamic hints of eucalyptus, refined, warm, wide mining, driven by a vital freshness and a fine tannin, the finish is in perfect balance, long finish. Aged for 18 months in barrels of oak.

Arianna gets her hands dirty .. In a most Delightful way !!!

93 pts.Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate: August, 2016Arianna Occhipinti has outdone herself with the 2014 Il Frappato. This is a wine of character and personality. It flaunts those slightly rustic edges with charm and confidence. The bouquet opens to ripe blueberry, raspberry and dried cassis. The quality of fruit shows good integrity and balance. You don’t notice any of the raw or unclean smells you sometimes get with wines made in such a natural and non-interventionist approach. The nose is pristine. In the mouth, Il Frappato delivers vibrant acidity and snappy fruit flavors. More than any other wine, this vintage and this producer can claim to have produced something close to a Pinot Nero with an all-Sicilian soul.

91 pts.Wine Enthusiast: August, 2016This earthy red opens with funky but appealing aromas of tilled soil, crushed black olive and ripe berry. The juicy, medium-bodied palate provides crunchy tart red cherry, succulent raspberry, ground pepper, energizing mineral and a gamey note. Ripe tannins and bright acidity provide the framework.
90
90+ pts.Vinous: December, 2016Dark ruby-red. Perfumed aromas and flavors of candied violet, red currant, aromatic herbs and orange peel. Finishes very long and floral, and richer and deeper than the SP68 Rosso, but with its same prickly palate sensation. I normally love this wine and find it is Occhipinti’s best wine, and in fact a second bottle was much deeper and richer, so my score is an average of the two single scores.

Recipes From My Sicilian Grandmother

Publication of GRANDMA BELLINO 'S ITALIAN COOKBOOK

RECIPES FROM MY SICILIAN GRANDMOTHER

mrnewyorkny_grandma

Available on Amazon Kindle .. Available in paperback July 31, 2015

Ladies and Gentlemen, Hello! I am pleased to announce the publication of my latest book, Grandma Bellino's Italian Cookbook  -  Recipes From My Sicilian Grandmother ..  It is now out and available on Amazon Kindle, and will be available next week in Paperback , publication Friday July 31, 2015  .. It's been a labor of love to get this one out. Well, they're (my books) all a labor of love, and this one is no exception. The book is comprised of recipes from my Sicilian Grandmother Giuseppina Bellino who left Lercara Friddi Sicily with her husband Philipo (my maternal Grandfather) in 1904 for the shores of New York and a new a better life in America .. My maternal grandparents Philipo and Giuseppina settled in in the Yorkville section of Manhattan and lived and worked there for a few years before moving to the Italian enclave of Lodi, New Jersey where my grandfather Philipo set up a shoemaker shop on Main Street in Lodi .. My grandfather worked hard and he and his wife Giuseppina had five children; my mother Lucia, her sister Lilly, and their three brothers Frank, Tony, and James .. My grandfather worked hard, but never made much money .. Often times their low earnings reflected in the family meals which where heavy on Soups and Pasta, and not all that much meat or fish on its own, never-the-less the Bellino's had a good healthy life .. My grandmother had wonderful recipes from back in Lercara Friddi, and she made friends in Lodi with women who came from Abruzzo, Napoli, Lazio, and Calabria and had regional recipes of their own. The ladies became friends and talked about and swapped the local recipes, so although this book is made mostly of Sicilian recipes from Giuseppina, there are Neapolitan recipes and one from Calabria, and Abruzzo as well. There are also recipes from Giuseppina's offspring and grandchildren like myself, my cousin Tony and my sister Barbara. The dishes and recipes in this book are filled and come from love, and do hope that people will cook and enjoy this eclectic collection of Sicilian and other italian recipes, some that are popular and well known, along with others that are rarer and less well know, yet wonderful never-the-less. I sincerely hope you all enjoy Grandma Bellino's Italian (Sicilian) Cookbook, the stories and recipes within.
